FBI Agent Atlee Pine's search for her sister Mercy clashes with military investigator John Puller's high-stakes case, leading them both deep into a global conspiracy -- from which neither of them will escape unscathed.

For many long years, Atlee Pine was tormented by uncertainty after her twin sister, Mercy, was abducted at the age of six and never seen again. Now, just as Atlee is pressured to end her investigation into Mercy's disappearance, she finally gets her most promising breakthrough yet: the identity of her sister's kidnapper, Ito Vincenzo.

With time running out, Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum race to Vincenzo's last known location in Trenton, New Jersey -- and unknowingly stumble straight into John Puller's case, blowing his arrest during a drug ring investigation involving a military installation.

Stunningly, Pine and Puller's joint investigation uncovers a connection between Vincenzo's family and a breathtaking scheme that strikes at the very heart of global democracy. Peeling back the layers of deceit, lies and cover-ups, Atlee finally discovers the truth about what happened to Mercy. And that truth will shock Pine to her very core.

  • What’s with the ending?

Unsatisfactory way to conclude this book.
  • Complaint

    By Muckcombs
Keeps one reading with good storytelling but implausible and unsatisfactory resolution
  • Not at all interesting or up to his established standards

I finished this book because I started it and wanted to enjoy it. But it is flat, not what I expected or even close to Baldacci’s standard established over many titles. Lastly it seems like a filler pub, with the sole purpose to sell one last forthcoming title where AP finally finds her sister. Well I won’t be reading that one.
  • Disappointing Ending

I was really into the book and have the others in the series as well. Lots of action and the build up to the ending was great . . . until it all fell apart. It’s time for Pine to find her sister. You can’t come this close and end the story the way it ended, highly disappointing.
  • I eagerly await all new Baldacci books. This one did not disappoint, excellent as always

    Great Read
  • Author doesn’t know his guns

    By mitch7340
Good book, however when describing guns you can tell he doesn’t know guns. I.e. there’s no such thing as a Glock 26 full size. 26 is a compact. A full size would be a 17, or 19.
